Children up through age 4 can get H1N1 injectable vaccine Friday at Carew
Children up through 4 years of age can get the H1N1 injectable vaccine starting Friday at the Carew Medical Park.
The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while supplies last. No appointment is necessary.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health received approximately 3,100 doses of H1N1 injectable vaccine and approximately 1,000 doses of H1N1 nasal spray vaccine today.
Some of vaccine will be giving to local healthcare providers to vaccinate their staff and high risk patients and some will be given out to the public at the Carew clinic.
For now, the H1N1 injectable vaccine offered at Carew will be reserved for children ages six months through 4 years of age. Children with asthma or other chronic health conditions can get this vaccine.
The department will also continue to offer the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine while supplies last for healthy children and young adults and for people who live with or provide care to infants less than six months of age. Children or adults with asthma or nasal congestion cannot get this vaccine. No one older than 49 years of age can receive this vaccine.
The vaccines are free to the public. Children under age 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Parkview Health is providing space for the clinic at Carew Medical Park, a three-story building located at 1818 Carew Street. You can access Carew Street either from Lake Avenue or East State Boulevard. Parking is available in an attached garage.
More than 3,600 people have been vaccinated for H1N1 flu since the clinic opened on Oct. 9.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of influenza should stay home and contact a health care provider.

Vaccines available at the Carew Medical Park clinic
H1N1 vaccine (injectable)
For children age 6 months through 4 years of age
If a child is ill with a fever, a child cannot get the vaccineH1N1 FluMist vaccine (nasal spray)
For healthy children and young adults 2 to 24 years of age who do not have underlying health conditions
For persons up to age 49 who live with or provide care for infants less than six months of age (e.g., parents, siblings, and daycare providers)
No child younger than 2 years of age can get this vaccine
No adult older than 49 can get this vaccine
Children under the age of 10 will need two doses of the H1N1 vaccine, four weeks apart, to be fully protected
If a child has had any live vaccine such as the MMR, Varicella (chickenpox) or the seasonal flu mist vaccine in the last 28 days, the child cannot receive the H1N1 FluMist vaccineSeasonal Flu vaccine (injectable)
For children 6 months up to 3 years of age
No child younger than six months can get this vaccine
