News release from the City of Fort Wayne:
Youth Symposium for Peace through Equity and Justice to be held March 5
Event sponsored by Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council and Canterbury School
(March 3, 2020) – Students from several Allen County high schools will participate in the upcoming Youth Symposium for Peace through Equity and Justice.
The event, sponsored by Mayor Tom Henry’s Youth Engagement Council and Canterbury School, will take place from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 at Indiana Tech Commons, 1600 E. Washington Blvd.
Mayor Henry will welcome students at 9:00 a.m., along with the Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council President and Canterbury High School Student Diversity Coordinators. Following the welcome, students will engage in discussions and activities designed to identify the challenges faced by today’s youth and explore positive ways to find equity and justice for everyone, including sessions about how silence exists in our communities, how silence impacts communities and how to overcome the danger of silence. The activities will be facilitated by educators and professionals in the community.
“I’m always encouraged by the forward thinking conversations our youth are willing to have,” said Mayor Henry. “These future leaders offer the type of fresh ideas that could make an extremely positive impact on our community. And having a chance to connect with each other and share ideas promotes the type of self-confidence that’s needed to succeed. I appreciate the leadership of my youth engagement council and Canterbury School in hosting this event.”
