FWPD: In the Line of Duty Death

(September 11, 2018) – On Monday, September 10th at approximately 11:15 p.m. Fort Wayne police officers were engaged in a vehicle pursuit that was initiated in the area of Southcrest and Kent Roads. The vehicle being pursued had been reported stolen earlier from the City of New Haven Indiana.
The pursuit ended up entering the river greenway near the Candlelite Apartment complex located off of Fairfield Avenue just south of Paulding Road. Our officer, 50-year old David A. Tinsley a 16-year veteran of the department entered the greenway path on foot with his officer in training. Officer Tinsley along with his partner and a K9 officer began searching the area on foot. A short time later, officers made an apprehension of the perpetrator, later identified as 49-year old Patrick Anthony Faiers of Fort Wayne in a wooded area just off the greenway where he had crashed the vehicle that he had been driving.
On his way back to his police cruiser Officer Tinsley collapsed. Officers began immediate resuscitation efforts until such a time medics transported him from the scene to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. Patrick Anthony Faiers has been charged with being a Habitual Traffic Violator and Resisting Law Enforcement both charges being felonies.
The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking for the lowering of all flags to half-mast in honor of our fallen officer. Funeral Details will be forthcoming.
