Critical Injury Accident

On Feburary 4th, 2016 at approximately 11:09pm an Officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department was responding to a call for service South bound on Armore Ave. when he observed a silver Chevy Malibu swerving into oncoming traffic North bound on Ardmore Ave. The Officer got permission to disregard the call he was en route too and turned around and began to follow the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued to drive into oncoming traffic North on Ardmore Ave.
The Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle fled after the emergency lights were activated. The suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed North on Ardmore then turning East onto Nuttman Ave. Speeds reached an access of 80 mph on Nuttman Ave. When the suspect vehicle crossed the railroad tracks it lost control and wrecked off the roadway. The Officer was in the process of disengaging from the vehicle pursuit because of the dangerous speeds it was reaching.
The two occupants of the vehicle were ejected from the wreckage. A National Guard member assisted the Police Officer by helping pull the adult male driver clear of the wreckage. The adult female passenger was thrown clear of the wreckage. Both suspects were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The male driver was upgraded to serious condition at the hospital and the female remains in critical condition.
Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming form the crashed vehicle and from its occupants. The suspect driver of the Chevy Malibu has previous charges of Operating While Intoxicated on his record. At this time alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
