Job Description: Summary
Working under the direction of the Sergeant of Crime Prevention/Child Safety Bureaus, incumbent supplies safety and adult supervision to children prior to and directly after school at dangerous street crossings.
Essential duties and responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervises children at busy crossing intersections;
- Familiarizes self with intersections;
- Reports irregularities to supervisor, i.e., broken stop lights, torn down stop signs;
- Supplies safety and supervision to young children.
Marginal Duties
Performs other duties as assigned.Education and/or Experience
- Any combination of education or experience equivalent to graduation from high school;
- Ability to physically move quickly to prevent young children from running out into traffic;
- Ability to read and understand policies, rules, regulations, laws, and instructions which apply to safety techniques;
- Knowledge of traffic and pedestrian control safety techniques;
- Knowledge of traffic and pedestrian direction in public street.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Incumbent does not supervise any staff.Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning Ability
