Flag Ceremony honors and remembers veterans, active-duty service members
(November 7, 2014) — The IPFW Military Student Services office proudly honors and remembers veterans and active-duty members of the armed forces at the 5th annual Veteran’s Day Flag Ceremony in Kettler Hall, Room 154 (faculty and staff lounge), on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. Community members are invitied to join students, faculty, and staff for the ceremony.
U.S. Army Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Russell Dewell of the Indiana National Guard will present the keynote speech. LTC Dewell served as an armor officer prior to becoming a chaplain in 2007. LTC Dewell was called to active duty in June 2009 and deployed to Afghanistan in August 2009, returning to Fort Wayne in September 2010.
Also speaking will be Jo Vaughan, coordinator of military student services; George McClellan, vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management; Kenneth Christmon, associate vice chancellor for diversity and multicultural affairs; and student veteran Diana Resac.
The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Mastodon Company Color Guard will present the colors.
About Military Student Services
The Office of Military Student Services was opened at IPFW in October 2010 with the help of a grant from the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue West Lafayette. In 2012 the university embedded the program within the infrastructure of Enrollment Management and moved the resource center to a suite in Kettler Hall. Vaughan has been the coordinator of the office since its initial stages and currently supervises daily operations. Enrollment certification of each military student/veteran’s course schedule is conducted by Mark Haney (Lieutenant Colonel, Retired) each semester. The office also employs four V.A. work-study students who are veterans or currently serving in the military.About IPFW
