Winterize, remodel & learn to cook at Fall Home Design Expo

(October 13, 2014) — Looking to add value to your home? Spruce up living quarters for holiday guests? Or even fine-tune your cooking skills?

With old man winter just a few months away, it’s time to think about projects inside your home at Fort Wayne’s Fall Home Design Expo Oct. 24-26 at Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Avenue.

If weather predictions pan out, we could face another brutal winter ahead. That could mean leaky roofs, burst pipes, broken furnaces and a spike in heating bills—but that’s if you’re not prepared.

“In order to prevent damage, you’ll want to get professional tune-ups and make sure certain parts of your home are properly insulated,” said Dave Marquart, producer of the Fall Home Design Expo. “You can meet with a number of our experts to make sure your readily prepared for the season. If you wait until a storm hits, you’ll wait in line next to everyone else for repairs, and then you can plan on paying top dollar.”

But other than winterizing the home, the expo also caters to home remodeling needs for renovation projects.

Marquart says fall is the perfect time to scope out contractors and tackle winter projects. “When you’re stuck inside hibernating from the bitter cold, you can work on making your living space more comfortable and enjoyable for the whole family, and even guests visiting for the holidays,” Marquart said. “And if you are expecting company anytime soon, you can count on our Taste of Home Cooking School to help finesse your cooking skills.”

For the second consecutive year, the expo remains a central hub for homeowners to connect with up to 100 high-quality home improvement exhibitors as it relates to kitchens, baths, carpet, doors, windows, insulation, room additions, home building, mortgages, roofing, decks, cabinets, refinishing, basements and much more.

New features this year include:

-Free Wine & Canvas painting lessons as part of The Indiana Wine Experience from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24. Attendees with little to no painting experience can take home their very own 8″x10″ acrylic masterpiece with step-by-step instruction from the pros.

Personalized art for the home will be paired with Indiana wine tastings, chocolate and cheese hors d’oeuvres, live music from Joe Justice, giveaways and a silent auction benefitting the Fort Wayne Children’s Foundation.

The Indiana Wine Experience is $19 per adult (age 21+), or $30 per couple, and includes expo admission.

-A Fun Fall Kids Zone with a safe indoor trick-or-treat and costume contest from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, in addition to an area filled with pumpkins, face painting and balloon art all weekend long.

-A free Taste of Home Cooking School with expo admission (just $10), also broken into four sessions rather than just one. Normally this show averages $20-$50 a person. Taste of Home’s Culinary Specialist Karen Davis will share home cooking tips, offer door prizes and break down seasonal fall dishes with demonstrations at 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 5 p.m.

Limited advance ticket sales available through FallHomeShow.org, which includes preferred seating, a meet greet, autographed Taste of Home cookbook and gift bag.

-A chance to win a new Cambria vanity countertop valued at $2,300, along with many others giveaways and show-only specials.

On Sunday, the Fort Wayne Winter Farmers Market will relocate from its usual spot at Parkview Field Lincoln Financial Event Center to the Fall Home Design Expo to offer up an array of home-based food, fresh produce, crafts and natural products.

Expo admission is $10 per person, which includes admission to the Taste of Home Cooking School; children 12 & under free; and $3 discount coupons are available on FallHomeShow.org. Every ticket allows re-admittance to the expo all weekend.
