News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:
Fatal Motorcycle Accident
Incident Date: 9/18/2014
Incident Time: 06:49 AM
Incident Location: E. Jefferson Blvd. and Ewing St
Victim: Adult Male / Deceased
On Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 06:49 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of E. Jefferson Blvd and Ewing St. on a report of an injury accident involving a motorcycle. Officers arrived and located an adult male who was unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Initial reports indicate both a semi-truck and the motorcycle were eastbound on E. Jefferson Blvd. The semi-truck began to turn northbound on Ewing St., at which time the semi-truck and motorcycle collided.
The deceased was the only rider on the motorcycle. No other injuries or crashes were reported. Investigators are currently interviewing the driver of the semi, as well as any witnesses in the area. Any surveillance video from nearby businesses will be reviewed as well.
At this time, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors. Per protocol, the semi driver was transported from the scene for standard alcohol/drug screenings. It does not appear the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Eastbound E. Jefferson Blvd. from Fairfield Ave. to Harrison St., and Ewing St. from E. Washington Blvd to Brackenridge St., remained closed to all traffic while investigators processed the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity.
