United Way Kicks Off 22nd Annual Day of Caring
Nearly 1,200 Volunteers Working to Make Allen County Better for All
(August 5, 2014) – Nearly 1,200 volunteers representing 65 local organizations will fan out over our community Thursday, August 7 for the 22nd annual United Way Day of Caring. Approximately 70 community service projects in the Fort Wayne area are anticipated to be completed by the volunteers. NIPSCO is the premiere Day of Caring sponsor.
The day starts with a breakfast at Headwaters Park WEST at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast is prepared by Orchid Events and Catering, the Day of Caring catering sponsor. More than 650 of the volunteers are also expected to attend the kickoff breakfast where they will learn about Day of Caring and be thanked for their service to the community. The breakfast will be emceed by Barb Richards; with Mayor Tom Henry and United Way board chair, Steve Smith, also saying a few words.
“Day of Caring is a great tradition of service for our community,” said Todd Stephenson, president and CEO of United Way of Allen County. “The day reinforces how generous Allen County residents and companies are with their time, talent and treasures and United Way is honored to continue to organize this event.”
Day of Caring focuses on what it really means to LIVE UNITED in Allen County. By working together with agencies and volunteers, the needs of our community can be met, making Allen County a better place to live and work. Projects submitted for Day of Caring can be completed in one day and generally consist of cleaning, landscaping, painting and other general maintenance. Projects take place at non-profit agencies; private residences coordinated by NeighborLink; child care centers and schools.
