USF offering summer academies to high school students
(May 19, 2014) – The School of Creative Arts (SOCA) at the University of Saint Francis will host pre-college summer academies in theatre, music technology and art through the month of July for high school students in grades 9-12. These intense, two- to three-week programs include supplies and lunch. For a registration form or further information, contact SOCA at 260-399-8064.
Theater
July 7-25, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
North Campus facilities at 2702 Spring St.
Cost is $185 per student.
The theater program will focus on monologue selection, on-stage performance, audition preparation, voice and movement strengthening, stage presence and confidence. The students will conclude their study by performing a one-act production during the academy student awards ceremony.
Music Technology
July 14-25, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
North Campus facilities at 2702 Spring St.
Cost is $124 per student.
The pre-college summer music tech program provides training in the musical arts and guides students as they create their own digital recordings using the University of Saint Francis music technology studios and Musical Instrument Digital Interface Lab. Each day’s activities include group classes and individual instruction. Topics will cover vocal and instrumental performance, developing piano proficiency, introduction to music theory and basic composition techniques (Sibelius software), computer music composition and arranging (Propellerheads Reason 4), recording studio production, microphone and signal flow, digital recording with ProTools 8 and ICON, final mastering and finishing techniques and a live performance during the academy exhibition and awards ceremony. The program is designed for high school students and recent graduates with an interest in audio recording and song writing.
Visual Arts
July 7-25, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Mimi and Ian Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communications on Leesburg Road
Cost is $185 per student.
The pre-college summer art academy allows high school students to study the visual arts, work with professional artists and develop professional portfolios for college entrance and scholarship applications. The program is highly structured, with students choosing two courses in morning and afternoon sessions from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media.
