TinCaps’ Perez named MWL Player of the Week
(April 21, 2014) – Fort Wayne TinCaps infielder Fernando Perez has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for April 14th to the 20th, the league office announced today. Perez, a 20-year-old from Ensenada, Mexico, hit .458 during the six games he played last week, hitting a home run, driving in nine runs and doubling three times.
Perez enters tonight’s game at Great Lakes (6:05 p.m., The Fan 1380) on a 10-game hitting streak, which ties him for the longest streak in the Midwest League this year. During the 10-game run, Perez is hitting .395 (17-43). He has been a versatile player for first-year manager Michael Collins, having played first base, second base, and third base.
The TinCaps open a week-long road trip tonight at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan against the Great Lakes Loons, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate. The travel continues Friday with the first of three against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
