News release from INDOT:
Union Chapel Road / Auburn Road Intersection Scheduled to Open Wednesday, December 4
Thanks to contractor, subcontractors, Allen County and INDOT team for cooperative effort
(December 3, 2013) ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that at approximately noon on Wednesday, December 4, weather permitting, the intersection of Union Chapel Road and Auburn Road is scheduled to open to traffic.
The intersection, which is located approximately just west of I-69, was closed in mid-August to begin construction of a roundabout and approaches on all four directions for traffic control.
There is still construction work that remains to be done, including surface paving, lighting and landscaping, and the contractor will resume these activities when weather permits in the spring. The contract completion date is July 2014.
INDOT would like to give special recognition and thanks to the contractor, subcontractors, Allen County and INDOT’s project supervisors and crew, who worked extra hours to allow this project to open to traffic earlier than anticipated this year. The early opening of this intersection is attributed to the cooperative effort amongst all these parties, and will allow motorists to use Union Chapel and Auburn Roads during the winter months until construction can resume.
INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, visit www.in.gov/indot.
