Great American Smokeout – 11/21/2013
Go Cold Turkey for Turkey!
(November 19, 2013) – The American Cancer Society marks the GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT on the third Thursday of November each year by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit or even just quit for that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.
In support of this event, the Fort Wayne Urban League will be hosting a “Go Cold Turkey for Turkey” event on November 21st from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Information will be provided about FREE resources to help smokers quit.
Attendees can receive a free turkey dinner by participating!!
Additionally, health screenings will be provided by several community partners from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Free screenings will include Blood Pressure, BMI, Weight, Dental Check, Stress/Mental Health, Flu Vouchers and HIV/AIDS. Participating organizations include AIDS Task Force, Health Visions, Park Center, Tobacco Free Allen County, Walgreens and others. Please note that no screenings can begin after 5:30 PM due to the time needed to complete them.
