One of the few regrets in my life is that I did not choose to serve in the armed forces. Â I have always admired and respected those who have served our country, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country. Â Those who have served and sacrificed are the ones that have made the freedoms, including the freedom of speech I exercise on this blog daily, possible. Â A sincere, heartfelt thank you to one and all – and also to their families.
That said, I remember the following story from CBS in January, 2007, when it first aired. Â I was shocked, not only by the negligence of the doctor involved, but of the tragic suffering and ultimate loss of life this young man endured and his family had to observe. Â I will warn you, that this video, once watched, will be seared in your mind for quite a while, and the story will make you pause – even if for only a minute or two.
Tonight, CBS aired a follow-up to the original story.  This young man’s family – his name was Carmelo Rodriguez – continues to fight to ensure the suffering endured will not be repeated.
Thank you for the indulgence in allowing me to post this.
