Ivy Tech Community College transfer students save more than $32 million in tuition costs
(INDIANAPOLIS) – Ivy Tech Community College students who transferred their Ivy Tech credits to each of the state’s public institutions during the 2010-2011 school year saved more than $32 million in tuition costs.
Nearly 11,000 Ivy Tech students transferred 243,827 credit hours last year – a savings that equates to $32,408,918. The savings calculations are determined by taking the total credit hour cost at the transfer institution minus the Ivy Tech per credit hour rate.
The rate at which Ivy Tech students are transferring to four-year institutions is also on the rise, increasing from 8,800 students the previous year to 11,000 for the 2010-2011 school year. The number of credit hours transferred has also increased from 175,000 to 243,827.
Of those Ivy Tech students transferring credit, 38 percent transferred completed associate degrees or certificates, while 62 percent transferred individual classes.
IUPUI is the largest recipient of Ivy Tech transfer students with 2,112 students transferring 58,371 credit hours, which also equates to the largest amount of savings totaling just under $8 million. Indiana University’s Bloomington campus received 1,756 Ivy Tech transfer students, while Indiana State University received 1,610 students and Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus received 1,603 students.
