USF School of Creative Arts staging “Xanadu”
(October 21, 2011) – The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts (SOCA) and ACT I Drama Club will stage the musical comedy “Xanadu” Friday through Sunday, Nov. 11-13 and 18-20, in the university’s North Campus Auditorium at 2702 Spring St.
Based on a book by Douglas Carter Beane, the story will focus on a Greek muse, Clio, who descends from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, Calif. in 1980 in a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest dream of his life—creating a roller disco. When Clio, disguised as an Australian roller girl named Kira, falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and Clio risks eternal banishment to the underworld.
Brad Beauchamp will direct the musical, which will feature music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.
Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $10, with half-price admission for those who donate a bag of food in support of the university’s USF Feeds the Fort food drive.
