News release from Congressman Marlin Stutzman:
Stutzman Proudly Votes for “Path to Prosperity”
(Washington, D.C. – April 15, 2011) – Today, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (R-IN-03) voted for the House Budget Committee budget initiative “The Path to Prosperity.” The budget initiative directs the actions of the House as it begins the appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2012 and beyond. “The Path to Prosperity” protects seniors now and in the future, keeping the promises made to those 55 and older and maintaining solvency for these programs for future generations.
“I am proud of the hard work by the House Budget Committee,” said Stutzman “Chairman Ryan and the whole committee worked to protect seniors and future generations. ‘The Path to Prosperity’ sets a solid plan to reduce trillions in deficit spending by following the defined role of the federal government and can give Hoosiers confidence that our Federal government can fix its problems if it has the political will.”
Facts from the House Budget Committee “The Path to Prosperity”:
Real Security: Fulfills the mission of health and retirement security for all Americans. Persons that are 55 and older will not see changes to their Social Security and Medicare benefits. Future generations will be able to participate in these programs as they will continue due to changes to make them viable for all.
Spending Cuts and Controls: Stops Washington from spending money it does not have on government programs that do not work. Eliminates hundreds of duplicative programs, reflects the ban on earmarks, and curbs corporate welfare. Non-security discretionary spending is at levels below FY 2008.
Restoring America’s Exceptional Promise: Ensures that the next generation inherits a stronger, more prosperous America. It spurs economic growth by increasing the real GDP of the next decade by $1.5 trillion by creating nearly one million new private-sector jobs.
Debt and Deficits: Puts the budget on the path to balance and pays off the debt. This surpasses the President’s low benchmark of sustainable deficits by reaching primary balance in 2015. It will reduce deficits by $4.4 trillion compared to the President’s budget plan over the next decade.
