Parkview to host upcoming events

(December 21, 2010) – Parkview will host several upcoming events.

The Parkview Diabetes Treatment Center will lead a community forum on diabetes at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 at the Allen County Public Library’s downtown branch, 900 Library Plaza. For more information, call (260) 373-4280.

Answers from a Cancer Expert – Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 1-3 p.m. in the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center lobby, entrance 4 on the Parkview North campus. Receive easy-to-understand answers to your questions from Nancy Ehmke, clinical nurse specialist, Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center. For more information, call (260) 266-9166.

The programs below will be held at the Parkview Women’s Health Center on the Parkview North campus, entrance 2. Registration is required by calling (260) 672-6500.

 

Exercise and Wellness Classes

ZUMBA – 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 5:15-6:15 p.m. each Tuesday Jan. 4-Feb. 22
The cost is $50 for Women’s Health Center members and $60 for non-members. Evening Yoga – 5:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 5-Feb. 28
Stretches and poses coupled with relaxed breathing renews a sense of calm, flexibility and strength. The cost is $45 for Women’s Health Center members and $55 for non-members for Monday or Wednesday classes. The cost is $90 for Women’s Health Center members and $110 for non-members for Monday and Wednesday classes.

Senior Stretch – 9:30-10:30 a.m. each Monday Jan. 10-31
Class routine includes chair, standing and floor exercises. Sessions focus on controlled stretching and muscle strengthening. The cost is $25 for Women’s Health Center members and $35 for non-members.

Ask the Dietitian 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12
Schedule 15 minutes with registered dietitian Julia Just to have nutrition questions answered. The event is free.

Women’s Check-Up Day 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 and 7-9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 Participants will receive a blood pressure screening, waist-to-hip measurement, body mass index, and lab testing (lipid profile and blood sugar). The cost is $25 for Women’s Health Center members and $45 for non-members. The fee also includes a personal wellness profile and a one-on-one consultation with a Women’s Health Center nurse.

Osteoporosis Screening 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18
The screening lasts 15 minutes and can provide valuable information and help. $5 for Women’s Health Center members and $10 for non-members.

Understanding Thyroid Disorders 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 Carol Burns, a nurse practitioner with experience in endocrinology, will share her knowledge about disorders that affect the thyroid gland. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.
