…WINTER STORM TO IMPACT OUR AREA LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT…

.LOW PRESSURE OVER CENTRAL IOWA THIS AFTERNOON WILL CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY AND MOVE EAST ACROSS OUR AREA TONIGHT. RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW AS THE SYSTEM MOVES ACROSS THE AREA OVERNIGHT. SNOW WILL CONTINUE ON SUNDAY AND BE HEAVY AT TIMES…ESPECIALLY ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA. NORTH TO NORTHWEST WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE IN THE AFTERNOON CAUSING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF OVER MOST OF THE AREA BY MONDAY MORNING…HOWEVER A BAND OF HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO NORTHWEST INDIANA SUNDAY NIGHT AND MOVE SLOWLY NORTHEAST ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL INDIANA AND SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT.

TRAVELING CONDITIONS IN THIS AREA WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT. SOME ROADS IN OUTLYING AREAS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE FROM BLOWING AND
DRIFTING SNOW.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW…WHICH IS IN
EFFECT FROM 1 AM SUNDAY TO 1 PM EST MONDAY.

* TIMING…RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUE SUNDAY BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO SNOW SHOWERS SUNDAY EVENING. WINDS WILL INCREASE SUNDAY AFTERNOON CAUSING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* MAIN IMPACT…TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 9 INCHES ARE EXPECTED. STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW AND SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES BEGINNING SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* OTHER IMPACTS…MOTORISTS WILL LIKELY ENCOUNTER RAPIDLY CHANGING CONDITIONS…WITH ROADS BEING SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY
ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES…AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Tonight: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 1am. Low around 28. Southeast wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow and widespread blowing snow. High near 29. West wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Snow showers likely and widespread blowing snow. Cloudy, with a low around 14. Blustery, with a north wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Monday: Widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow showers. Cloudy and cold, with a high near 18. North wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night: Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near 20.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5.
