Parkview to host upcoming events

(September 28, 2010) – Parkview will host several upcoming events focused on diabetes, women’s health and cancer awareness.

The Parkview Diabetes Treatment Center will lead a community forum on diabetes at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the Allen County Public Library’s downtown branch, 900 Library Plaza. The featured speaker will be Dr. Leonard Mastbaum, medical director, Parkview Diabetes Treatment Center.

Forums are held for people who have diabetes and their family members. For more information, call (260) 373-4280.

Answers from a Cancer Expert – Fridays in October (1, 8, 15, 22, and 29) from 1-3 p.m. in the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center lobby, entrance 4 on Parkview North campus. Receive easy-to-understand answers to your questions from Nancy Ehmke, clinical nurse specialist, Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center. For more information, call (260) 266-9166.

The programs below will be held at the Parkview Women’s Health Center on the Parkview North campus, entrance 2. Registration is required by calling (260) 672-6500.

Clinical Breast Exams – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – 1:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Monday, Oct. 11. Clinical breast exams will be provided. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Ask the Dietitian – 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Registered dietitian Julia Just will answer your nutrition questions. The 15-minute appointments are free.

Osteoporosis Screening – 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. The screening lasts 15 minutes and can provide valuable information and help. The cost is $5 for Women’s Health Center members and $10 for non-members.

Gastrointestinal Cancers – 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. Dr. Sreenivasa Nattam will discuss a variety of cancers. Guests will also learn about reducing risk factors and early detection. The event is free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Foot Screenings with Dr. Michael McManus, Orthopaedics NorthEast – Noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20. The screenings are designed for people experiencing pain, difficulty walking, changes in foot structure, or any condition of the skin or nails. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Postpartum Pals Mom Time – 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21. Deb Lulling, Parkview Community Nursing, will be the guest speaker to discuss colds and influenza. The event is free.

Learn to Love Your Skin – 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. Guests will learn fun and simple tips to improve skin conditions. The event will also include a skin care presentation, raffle, reduced prices on L’ATHENE products, consultations, and light refreshments. The program is free.
