Major City of Fort Wayne divisions share 2027 budget plans

The City of Fort Wayne’s major divisions presented their 2027 budget plans to the Fort Wayne City Council this evening.

Major City divisions share highlights of 2027 budget plans
City in strong fiscal position to meet community needs

Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 6, 2026) – Fort Wayne is in a strong financial position as the City’s major divisions presented their 2027 budget plans to City Council this evening.

The areas featured were the Public Works Division, Parks and Recreation Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, Fort Wayne Fire Department, and Community Development.

Last month, Mayor Sharon Tucker and City Controller Pat Roller announced the proposed 2027 budget. It calls for investments in neighborhood infrastructure, enhancements in city parks, and a continued commitment to ensuring Fort Wayne is the safest community possible.

2027 budget highlights:

  • $42 million led by the Public Works Division, which includes $31.9 million for streets, roads and neighborhoods, $6.7 million for sidewalks and alleys, $1.3 million for bridges, and $2.1 million for trails. Download the presentation slides.
  • Investments in capital projects through the Parks & Recreation Department will total $4.3 million. Download the presentation slides.
  • The Fort Wayne Police Department will have its 71st recruit class that will keep the budgeted number of officers patrolling City streets to protect the public at 510. Download the presentation slides.

City Council is reviewing the budget this month. Plans call for final passage later this month.
