Metro Welcomes Lakisha Woods as Executive Director
Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 25, 2026) — The Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission (Metro) is pleased to announce the appointment of Lakisha Woods as Executive Director, effective September 21, 2026.
Woods brings 14 years of experience with Metro and a longstanding commitment to the Commission’s mission of empowering, enforcing, and educating the community. She began her career as an Investigator and progressed to Senior Investigator. After her initial tenure with Metro, Woods spent just over a year in private practice, where she focused on employment and labor law, before returning to Metro as Staff Attorney, a role she has held for more than two and a half years.
In her most recent role as Staff Attorney, Woods provided legal guidance to Metro staff, the Executive Director, and Commissioners while supporting the Commission’s enforcement and civil rights work.
“Lakisha’s extensive experience in multiple roles makes her well-positioned to lead the Commission, and we look forward to the leadership, ideas, and opportunities she will bring to strengthen our connection with the community,” said Tabitha Ervin, Chair of the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission.
“I am grateful to serve as Metro’s Executive Director and continue my commitment to an organization that has been an important part of my professional career for 14 years,” said Woods. “I look forward to building on Metro’s foundation while bringing new ideas and opportunities that advance our mission.”
As Executive Director, Woods will focus on expanding community outreach and education, strengthening community partnerships, and increasing public awareness of Metro’s services and resources.
“Education and community engagement are essential to ensuring that individuals understand their rights and know where to turn for assistance,” Woods said. “By strengthening our partnerships and expanding outreach, we can increase awareness of Metro’s resources and ensure our services are accessible to the people we serve.”
