Girl Scouts to hold 11th Annual STEM Expo on September 26, 2026
Free event for girls in grades K-12; no Girl Scout membership requiredFort Wayne, Indiana (September 2, 2026) – Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana (GSNI-M) will hold its 11th annual STEM Expo from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept, 26 in the Walb International Ballroom on the Purdue University Fort Wayne campus. All girls in grades K-12 are invited; Girl Scout membership is not required.
The STEM Expo aims to break down barriers and foster a love for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) disciplines among girls in the community. Attendees will interact with more than 30 area businesses and exhibitors, experiment with hands-on activities, and learn from accomplished female STEM professionals who will share their insights and journeys in interactive breakout sessions.
“Research tells us that girls face many barriers to engaging with STEM — from early misconceptions like ‘math is for boys’ to the underrepresentation of women in STEM careers. Our STEM Expo is designed to combat these barriers by providing fun, accessible STEM experiences to all girls, whether they’re Girl Scouts or not,” said Chief Executive Officer Sharon Pohly. “We want every attendee to leave with a newfound enthusiasm for learning and a sense of empowerment to pursue their dreams.”
The featured speaker is Dr. Sandra H. “Sandy” Magnus, President of the Board for AstraFemina, a collective of prominent female STEM leaders who have made a significant difference in the world and are dedicated to showing girls and young women the benefits of STEM as a career choice. Dr. Magnus was selected to the NASA Astronaut Corps in April 1996; Dr. Magnus flew in space on the STS-112 shuttle mission in 2002, and on the final shuttle flight, STS-135, in 2011. In addition, she flew to the International Space Station on STS-126 in November 2008, served as flight engineer and science officer on Expedition 18, and returned home on STS-119 after four and a half months on board. She is currently the principal of AstroPlanetview, LLC and Professor of Practice at Georgia Tech.
All participants will earn a Girl Scout STEM Career Exploration badge. Attendees can register here in advance, and admission is free.
