Beam Me Up, ACPL: Library Celebrates 60 Years of “Star Trek” with a Movie Marathon
Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 4, 2026) – Sixty years ago, audiences first heard those famous words: “Space, the final frontier.” On September 8, 1966, Star Trek made its television debut, launching a cultural phenomenon that would inspire generations to boldly go where no one had gone before. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, the Allen County Public Library will celebrate six decades of Star Trek with a Star Trek 60th Anniversary Marathon at the Main Library Theater. The free event begins at 3 p.m. and will transport fans across time, space, and the final frontier with an afternoon and evening of classic Star Trek adventures.
The marathon lineup includes:
3 p.m. — “Star Trek: The Original Series,” Season 1, Episode 22: “Space Seed”
Before Khan became one of Starfleet’s most formidable foes, he was introduced to audiences in this classic episode of The Original Series. It’s the perfect launch point for an afternoon of Star Trek history.
4 p.m. — “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”
Khan. Kirk. The Genesis Device. One of the most celebrated films in the Star Trek universe—and one of the biggest reasons “Khaaaaaaan!” has become part of the pop-culture lexicon.
6:20 p.m. — “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”
The crew of the Enterprise heads back to 20th-century Earth in one of the franchise’s most beloved and humorous adventures. Their mission? Save the whales and, apparently, try to explain 23rd-century technology to people who have never heard of a transparent aluminum container.
“Star Trek has always been about exploration and discovery which fits perfectly with what libraries do every day,” said Kristine Sprunger, ACPL Senior Production Assistant and self-proclaimed Trekkie. “We’re excited to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek by bringing fans together for an afternoon of great stories, memorable characters, and a little trip through the universe. It’s also an opportunity to find new fans by displaying arguably the best of the best over the past 60 years.”
Fans are encouraged to embrace the occasion by wearing costumes of their favorite captain, Vulcan, Klingon, engineer, science officer or other inhabitant of the Federation. Vulcan ears are optional. Tribbles are probably best left at home.
Attendees are encouraged to register in advance to reserve a spot and receive event reminders. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
