Due to the crash and subsequent investigation, US 30 east of Flaugh Road was closed for nearly two hours.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a white Dodge Sprinter van traveling eastbound on US 30 approached a line of stopped traffic at the intersection of US 30 and Flaugh Road. The driver, Cheryl Montana (73) of Larwill, IN, failed to stop and collided with the rear of the stopped vehicles. The impact involved a black Ram pickup driven by Jailan Hedgecock (30) of Fort Wayne, and a white Chevrolet driven by Christian Nichols (25) of Springville, AL.

Both Ms. Montana and Mr. Hedgecock sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.

During the investigation, troopers located an unharmed dog inside the Dodge van. The animal was safely secured and later reunited with Ms. Montana’s family.

The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the West Central Fire Department.
