FWPD: Armed Subject, 1200 block Maple Avenue

An email update was sent at 1526 hours by the FWPD:

Update: The subject from 1209 Maple Ave incident was taken into custody without incident. The area is now deemed safe.

On August 22, 2026, at 1250 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of an armed subject whose suspicious behavior was causing concern among citizens in the area.

Fort Wayne Police Department incident Report Details/Summary:

On August 22, 2026, at 12:50 p.m. officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a report of an armed subject whose suspicious behavior was causing concern among citizens in the area.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to communicate with the subject to de-escalate; however, the subject was unresponsive to officers and continued to exhibit concerning behavior. Due to the presence of a firearm and the subject’s behavior, officers remained concerned for the safety of the subject and members of the public in the area.

The incident is currently being managed by the FWPD Crisis Response Team and Emergency Services Team. Officers continue to work toward a safe resolution. Citizens are encouraged to avoid the area until the situation has been resolved, and the area has been deemed safe.
