Fort Wayne Police Department incident Report Details/Summary:

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded at approximately 7:44 a.m. to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a Fort Wayne Community Schools bus.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female pedestrian suffering from serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Medical personnel later determined that her injuries were life-threatening.

At the time of the crash, one student was aboard the school bus. The student was not injured.

Due to the severity of the pedestrian’s injuries, specialized crash investigators were requested, along with members of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Air Support Division. The Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is assisting with the investigation.

Fort Wayne Community Schools and the school bus driver are cooperating fully with investigators. Investigators have reviewed video from the bus’s onboard camera. Based on the preliminary investigation, there is no indication that the Fort Wayne Community Schools bus driver was at fault in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Indiana State Police are assisting with the commercial vehicle inspection, which is standard protocol following a crash involving a school bus.

Traffic is currently restricted to one southbound lane of Coliseum Boulevard north of Vance Avenue. Motorists should expect the restriction to remain in place for approximately the next hour and a half while investigators complete their work.

This investigation is being assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team, Air Support Division, Indiana State Police, and Fort Wayne Community Schools.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the investigation permits.
