To help students feel comfortable and prepared, Fort Wayne Community Schools will host Transition Day on August 6, 2026, for kindergarten students, sixth graders and ninth graders.

Transition Day welcomes students to their new schools
Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 5, 2026) – The start of a new school year is an exciting time, but moving to a new building can also bring a few nerves. To help students feel comfortable and prepared, Fort Wayne Community Schools will host Transition Day on Thursday, Aug. 6, for kindergarten students, sixth graders and ninth graders. Parents are encouraged to participate.
Transition Day Schedule:
- Kindergarten: By appointment
- Sixth grade: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Ninth grade: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
During Transition Day, students will meet teachers and staff, explore their new schools, practice daily routines and become familiar with their schedules and classrooms. Incoming ninth graders will also learn about Freshman Schools of Success powered by 3DE and Freshman Seminar.
The first day of school for Fort Wayne Community Schools students is Wednesday, Aug. 12.
