Today, the City of New Haven Indiana cut the ribbon Monday on a half-mile stretch of the Minnich Road Trail as the city expands on the recently finished Lincoln Highway Trail.

New Haven cuts ribbon on portion of Minnich Road Trail Half-mile stretch to serve as extension toward District
New Haven, Indiana (July 27, 2026) – New Haven cut the ribbon Monday on a half-mile stretch of the Minnich Road Trail as the city expands on the recently finished Lincoln Highway Trail.
New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael says the trail demonstrates continued growth, increased walkability and more universal access to businesses in New Haven.
“The completion of this section of trail is another milestone in New Haven’s vision of a more connected community,” McMichael said. “It creates meaningful pedestrian connections for neighborhoods like Highland Terrace and, in the near future, Cameron Creek, linking residents to the library, downtown, and destinations across the city.”
The trail is 10 feet wide, providing a much safer, spacious buffer than standard narrower sidewalks, and is equipped with more than a dozen decorative streetlights to ensure high visibility and pedestrian safety at all hours.

New Haven Chief of Staff Ivan Almodovar says the project reflects the city’s long-term vision and build infrastructure that serves today’s residents while preparing New Haven for the opportunities ahead.
“It’s always exciting to celebrate projects like this because they represent more than just another construction project,” Almodovar said. “They represent another investment in the future of New Haven and in the quality of life for the people who call this community home.”
The heavy-use asphalt trail also integrates a pedestrian crossing at the State Road 930 intersection.
New Haven Redevelopment Commission President Nicole Keesling says the city’s aggressive trail expansion has transformed the community into a highly attractive, walkable environment.
“The Redevelopment Commission believes great communities are built through thoughtful investments in infrastructure,” Keesling said. “This trail not only connects people to places, but it also supports continued development along the Minnich Road corridor and reinforces downtown New Haven as the heart of our community. It’s another step toward creating a more connected, vibrant, and economically strong city.”
Future plans include an extension of the trail south toward Moeller Road.
