On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at approximately 10:27 p.m., officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to the intersection of S. Lafayette Street and E. Washington Boulevard in reference to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers determined a single vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the roadway while the vehicle was making a westbound turn onto E. Washington Boulevard. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition at this time.
At this time, neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
Due to the nature of the pedestrian’s injuries, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The Air Support Unit (ASU) is also assisting with the investigation.
The intersection of E. Washington Boulevard and S. Lafayette Street is expected to remain closed to westbound traffic for several hours while FACT and ASU process the scene.
