
On June 13, 2026, at 1830 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 5200 block of Gaywood Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On Scene: 1834 hours
Under Control: 1904 hours
While firefighters were en route, 9-1-1 received multiple calls stating the house was on fire with heavy fire and smoke showing from the house. An elderly resident was reported to be inside the home. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a one-story house with heavy fire from the rear of the home, the attic as well as roof spaces. Neighbors had broken a front window to make entry and carried the elderly occupant out of the house to safety, prior to the FWFD arriving. Crews utilized multiple hose lines and cut multiple holes in the roof to access and extinguish the heavy fire in the attic area and rear of the home. The fire was brought under control within thirty-four minutes of the initial dispatch.
Crews were going to remain on the scene for extensive overhaul of the structure to make sure that all the fire was extinguished.
Fire investigators e still working to determine the cause of the fire.
The Three Rivers Ambulance Authority transported the sole occupant to a local hospital for evaluation.
