Fort Wayne Police Department incident report:
Date: June 2, 2026
Location: Laundry Xpress 2439 West Jefferson Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana
Time: 1258 hours
Details/Summary:
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a building. Upon arrival, officers located a semi-tractor and trailer that had collided with a commercial laundromat. The male driver of the semi was trapped inside the cab due to crash damage and building debris. The Fort Wayne Fire Department was able to extricate him quickly.
Several patrons were inside the laundromat at the time of the crash. Some were knocked to the ground or into equipment as the semi entered the building. At least one male was briefly trapped under debris before being carried outside by people inside the building prior to the arrival of first responders.
The preliminary investigation indicates the semi was traveling westbound on W. Jefferson Blvd. when it crossed the center turn lane, the eastbound lanes, and exited the south side of the roadway. The semi continued through the laundromat parking lot, striking three parked vehicles directly in front of the business. One of the vehicles, a pickup truck was occupied by two adult females, one of whom was pregnant, was pushed slightly into the building. Both occupants sustained minor injuries. An unoccupied SUV was pushed completely into the building, and another SUV was forced up against the building. The cause of the semi crossing multiple lanes and leaving the roadway remains unknown. At this time, there is no indication that any other vehicle contributed to the crash.
The semi driver and five additional individuals sustained injuries. Multiple people were transported to area hospitals, and medics on scene reported all patients were in good condition with minor injuries. Both the building and the semi sustained significant damage.
The crash remains under investigation. The Indiana State Police will assist by conducting a commercial vehicle inspection as early as June 3, 2026.
