On May 6, 2026, at 2330 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on Airport Expressway, just south of the intersection at Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Late on May 6, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Airport Expressway, just south of the intersection at Lower Huntington Road.
Upon arrival, officers located an SUV that had left the roadway. The female driver was found to be in stable condition. The second vehicle, an Audi coupe, had come to rest against the guardrail. The male driver of the Audi was found unconscious and suffering from life-threatening injuries. Medics transported both drivers to a local hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates the SUV was traveling southbound/westbound on Airport Expressway when it was struck from behind by the Audi, which was traveling at a high rate of speed. At this time, speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) was notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. The FWPD Air Support Unit (ASU) is assisting with aerial documentation of the scene.
Airport Expressway, southbound/westbound, will remain closed at Lower Huntington Road for the next hour while investigators process the scene.
