Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Airport Expressway and Bluffton Road shortly after 5:00 PM on Friday, March 20, 2026. Responding units arrived to find an SUV on its side and a sedan partially off the roadway.
Preliminary information indicates the SUV was traveling eastbound on Airport Expressway when the sedan attempted a left turn from the westbound lanes to head south on Bluffton Road, resulting in the collision.
The adult male driver of the SUV and an elderly female passenger in the sedan were transported to a local hospital. The female passenger was reported to be in life-threatening condition, while the SUV driver was listed in good condition. The adult male driver of the sedan did not appear to be injured. Fort Wayne Fire Department personnel assisted on scene and extricated one of the drivers who had been trapped.
The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) and Air Support Unit (ASU) responded to conduct the investigation. Investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing involved parties and witnesses. The incident remains under investigation as the FACT Team works to determine fault in the crash.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
