On January 24, 2026, at 1614 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 5300 block of Rothermere Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On Scene: 1619 hours
Under Control: 1637 hours
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke issuing from the entire roof area. Engine 8 pulled a line and met the occupants at the front of the house who stated all persons and animals were out of the house. Crews then proceeded to put out the fire. The home was searched for occupants and hidden fires.
The cause of the fire was found to be accidental in nature. Homeowners were trying to thaw frozen pipes.
One occupant was taken to a local hospital for observation.
Crews remained on scene for a period of time continuously looking for hot spots.
