Fort Wayne City Utilities earns national recognition for sustainable management

For the third time, Fort Wayne City Utilities has been honored with the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies.

City Utilities Receives Top National Honor for Sustainable Management

Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 28, 2025) – For the third time in its history, City Utilities has been honored with the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies.

The Sustainable Water Utility Management Award recognizes utilities that have made a commitment to sustainable management through innovative economic, social and environmental efforts to protect public health and water resources.

City Utilities’ pioneering efforts in environmental stewardship, sustainability and social equity were highlighted through this honor. The exceptional achievements of 18-year Long Term Control Plan to protect our rivers, the revolutionary Microgrid, alternative power project; Lead Line Replacement Program, asset management and staff development were highlighted by association leaders as deserving of accolades.

The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) is an organization of the largest publicly owned drinking water systems in the United States. Each year, AMWA celebrates utilities exemplifying leadership and innovation through their advancements in clean water delivery and public health protection. City Utilities was one of five utilities across the nation selected for the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award. The award was presented last night (Oct 27), at AMWA’s 2025 Executive Management Conference in Austin, Texas.
