Public Invited to attend Plant, Pick and Plate Kick-Off set for 6/6/2025

Officials from the City of Fort Wayne, U.S. Conference of Mayors. and the American Beverage Association for a Healthy America will kick off the Plant, Pick & Plate program on June 6, 2025.

Public Invited to attend Plant, Pick & Plate Kick-Off Set for June 6

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 29, 2025) – Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and officials from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Association for a Healthy America (ABFHA) will kick off the Plant, Pick & Plate program on June 6, 2025, at Johnnie Mae Farm, 2518 Winter St. The public is invited to attend and learn about the program, as well as take a tour of the farm, sample recipes made with fresh produce and attend the first Farm Stand of the season.

The Johnnie Mae Farm Stand opens at 2 p.m. and fresh produce will be available to purchase while supplies last. Brief remarks from Mayor Tucker and others involved with the program will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a tour of the farm and kitchen. Samples of recipes using fresh produce and refreshments will be available while supplies last.

In January, the Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Association for a Healthy America named Fort Wayne the first-place winner of the 2025 Childhood Obesity Prevention & Environmental Health & Sustainability Award for its Plant, Pick & Plate Program. The program is a collaborative effort of the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division, Purdue Fort Wayne Extension and Inspired Nutrition. It is a free year-round experience for area fifth through ninth grade students; they will get hands-on lessons growing, harvesting and cooking with local produce. Parents/guardians and interested students are welcome to attend the event to learn more.

 

The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division works to enhance economic opportunity, build strong neighborhoods and ensure a dynamic framework for growth and development. The Division’s departments include Neighborhood Code Compliance, Neighborhoods, Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services, Redevelopment/Economic Development, and Planning and Policy.
