Press release from the Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity:

Lincoln Financial Foundation Provides Grant for Energy Star Homes for Habitat for Humanity in Fort Wayne

The Lincoln Financial Foundation has provided Fort Wayne HFH with a $39,000 grant to upgrade 13 new houses to Energy Star status. Reduced energy consumption is achieved through upgraded insulation and HVAC ductwork, and use of more efficient appliances, lighting fixtures, and bulbs. All Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity homes are receiving an Energy Star upgrades.

A dedication is scheduled Friday June 18th at 5pm for the family of Angela Patterson at 3205 Logan Ave. Home is will be more energy efficient keeping cost of utilities low, making Habitat homes sustainable not only from the construction stand point but also by being able to sustain affordability costs to the homeowner.

“The Lincoln Foundation has been a tremendous partner with Habitat for many years. Lincoln continues to partner with us on our mission to build decent, affordable homes for our Partner Families. This year Lincoln has taken that partnership to another level, allowing our homes to be more cost efficient to live in. A decent, affordable home doesn’t stop when we are done building, but continues for many years after the family has moved in. The foundation’s mission is to help people face their futures with confidence which for us means recognizing the value in long term affordability, and we are very blessed to have them as a partner.”

The Patterson family has completed 300 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build it, a basic tenet of Habitat for Humanity. They will also repay the no-profit mortgage over a period of 20 years, illustrating Habitat for Humanity’s objective to give families a “hand up” rather than a “hand out.”
