Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:

TinCaps Roar Back to Claim Victory

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 8, 2019) – The TinCaps erased a 3-1 deficit in a come-from-behind, 9-5 victory over the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) at Parkview Field on Monday night.

Fort Wayne (3-2) scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first. Xavier Edwards led off the frame with a single, followed by a Tucupita Marcano single and a Blake Hunt one-out walk to load the bases. After a Justin Lopez strikeout, Dwanya Williams-Sutton coaxed a full-count walk to bring home Edwards.

Dayton (2-3) then took the lead behind two runs in the third, a single run in the top of the sixth, and sterling starting pitching from Lyon Richardson. After allowing the run in the first inning, the Florida native set down the final 10 TinCaps batters he faced, including striking out the side in the fourth inning (his final inning of work).

Fort Wayne began its onslaught with three runs in the sixth inning, an inning that featured three hits, two errors, a passed ball, and a walk. The TinCaps sent nine to the plate in the sixth, with Agustin Ruiz, Lopez and Williams-Sutton scoring the three runs by way of an error, a passed ball, and another error.

Two more runs for Fort Wayne came in the seventh inning. With two on and two out, Nick Gatewood smacked a double off of the left-field wall that scored Hunt and Williams-Sutton. Gatewood’s blast nearly cleared the wall – in fact, it was initially ruled that the Georgia native had hit a three-run home run. However, the ruling was changed, and the TinCaps’ lead briefly remained at 6-3.

Fort Wayne put the game away with three runs on five hits in the eighth inning. The TinCaps sent eight more men to the plate, with Marcano, Ruiz, and Hunt supplying the RBIs in the inning. Jawuan Harris (double), Edwards (bunt single), Marcano (RBI single), Hunt (RBI single) and Lopez (single) all had base knocks in the inning.

Dayton scored two runs in the ninth inning, but the rally was too little, too late, as Tom Colletti recorded the final three outs to secure Fort Wayne’s third victory in five games to start this season.
Not to be lost among all the offensive firepower was a strong start by Ramon Perez. The 19-year-old native of Cuba struck out eight in his five innings of work, allowing two unearned runs on just two hits. Henry Henry was also impressive in his extended relief outing, tossing three innings of one-run ball on three hits while striking out three.
