On August 10, 2020, at 1943 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to the site of a mobile home that had rolled on its side against another home in the 4300 block of Brimstone Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Time of Alarm: 1943 hours
On Scene: 1950 hours
Under Control: 2112 hours
During the initial wave of the earlier storm, a mobile home was rolled onto its side, against a neighboring trailer. 9-1-1 callers reported possible occupants inside. On arrival FWFD crews found a badly damaged trailer and heard a serious gas leak. Firefighters addressed the gas leak and made the area safe from exposed power lines while crews began to explore different possible paths to the victims reported inside.
Within 10 minutes of arriving on the scene, crews had worked far enough inside to find an adult female clutching a child, both under more debris. Less than four minutes later, the young boy was brought outside the structure, conscious and in good condition. Two minutes after, the adult was removed to the outside and handed off to medics, unconscious and in critical condition. Medics transported her to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
An occupant of the neighboring trailer was inside at the moment the first trailer was upended against his home. He escaped unhurt, prior to the arrival of emergence crews by climbing out his own window. The FWFD was assisted by TRAA, ACPD, NIPSCO and AEP.
