On July 10, 2020, at 2234 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a kitchen fire in an apartment in the 1200 block of Fayette Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Firefighters discovered the fire had extended into the attic. Multiple crew worked to extinguish the fire and protect the rest of the building. The fire extended along the length of the attic and required ventilation holes to be cut in the roof to be able to stop the fire from spreading. The fire was placed under control in about an hour. The fire traveled in the attic to adjacent areas and was extinguished by firefighters.
One firefighter fell through the roof and was injured, treated and released.
