
On April 2, 2022, at 0634 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 1200 block of Burgess Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Numerous neighbors near Burgess and Degroff Streets called 9-1-1 to report a house fire. Five minutes after being dispatched, FWFD units arrived and reported fire coming through the roof and at the rear of the building. Crews quickly entered and knocked down heavy fire, while searching to confirm the building was not occupied. Indiana Michigan Power was called to make the scene safe due to a live power line that had dropped behind the structure after burning free from the wall. The fire was declared under control 13 minutes after the arrival of FWFD units.
Investigators determined the fire to be accidental and caused by a wood-burning stove heater.
