On October 7, 2023, at 1737 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire at the Arbor Lakes Apartments at 1895 Bayview Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Time of Alarm: 1717 hours
On Scene: 1740 hours
Under Control: 1817 hours
Crews arrived on the scene and reported heavy fire through the roof of the building. Crews made entry inside one apartment to attempt to extinguish the fire. At that point, the fire had already extended through the ceiling and roof of the building and into the bulk of the attic space.
Firefighters were evacuated for a short time as parts of the roof was collapsing. Crews then utilized large hose streams to knock the fire down in the attic. Multiple crews made entry into neighboring apartments, pulling the ceilings down and getting water on the fire in the attic spaces. These actions brought the fire under control.
All residents had safely evacuated on their own.
Due to extensive damage, firefighters will be working through the evening to complete overhaul of the structure and make sure that any spot fires are extinguished.
Fire Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
