FWFD: Duplex Fire, 2900 block Broadway

On May 26, 2023, at 1734 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a duplex fire in the 2900 block of Broadway, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Time of Alarm: 1734 hours
On Scene: 1736 hours
Under Control: 1750 hours

Firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the first floor of a two-story duplex. Upon entering the structure, they discovered heavier amounts of smoke coming from the basement. A working fire was encountered as crews made their way down the stairs. Crews kept the fire contained to the basement making a quick knock down of the fire.

A rapid search was made of structure with nothing found.

All occupants of the upstairs and downstairs apartments self-evacuated. All pets except for one cat was accounted for per the homeowners. Crews were unable to locate the missing cat, however, the occupant stated that the cat does have a way to come and go into the house.

There was significant damage to the basement with light to moderate smoke issues throughout the rest of the house.

The fire is under investigation.
