
On March 11, 2023, at 1938 hours, the Fort Wayne fire Department responded to the report of a possible structure fire with thick black smoke in the hallway on the first floor at the Edsall House Apartments at 310 West Berry Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Time of Alarm: 1938 hours
On Scene: 1942 hours
Under Control: 1947 hours
Firefighters arrived and were met with thick smoke conditions on the first-floor with limited visibility. Numerous people were self evacuating at this time. Crews advanced a handline into the fire apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. During the search of the apartment one person was found deceased in the apartment. The fire was contained to one apartment unit. Crews continued to search all floors of the apartment building to make sure all were ok and accounted for. Crews continued to work to remove the smoke from all floors of the building.
The fire is still under investigation at this time.
