FWPD Update: 2019 Homicide Suspect Arrest, West Cook and Hanauer Roads

On March 2, 2020, the Fort Wayne Police Department arrested Jamari Dodson on a charge of Murder in the shooting death of Michael Lovett in the 1700 block of Lake Avenue on April 9, 2019.

Details/Summary:

Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Division arrested Jamari Dodson on a charge of Murder stemming from the shooting death of Michael Lovett at 1718 Lake Ave on April 9, 2019. Detectives knew there was a second shooter but had to wait until confirmation, by DNA, that the suspect was involved in the shooting death of Lovett.

Today, detectives received that confirmation and arrested the suspect. Officers from Homicide and Gang Units arrested Dodson at Cook Rd and Hanauer Rd this evening around 6:05pm. Dodson has been charged with Murder. He will be arranged in Allen Superior Court in the morning. Dodson is the second arrest in this homicide. James Dodson Jr was arrested earlier last year and also charged with Murder by detectives.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
