FWPD: Suspect in last Sunday’s fatal accident in downtown arrested

The Fort Wayne Police Department has arrested a suspect in the 500 block of Madison Street, who was involved in a fatal accident on May 1, 2022, in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Suspect Arrested: Samuel L. Clemons, 37 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana

  2. Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death
  3. Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon
  4. Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon
  5. Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle

Details/Summary:

The city of Fort Wayne Police Department is actively investigating a fatal crash that occurred at S. Clinton St. and E. Jefferson Blvd. this past Sunday around 7:35pm that resulted in the death of an adult female. The suspect involved in that crash was believed to be the potential barricaded subject at 500 Madison St. that necessitated an EST/CRT/ASU call-out later that night. The suspect was not located at that residence. Early this morning, the suspect turned himself into Police. The Fatal Accident Crash Team, Homicide Unit, EST/CRT/ASU, and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office worked tirelessly throughout the late evening hours to help bring the suspect to custody.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
