Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:

Gasser Strikes Out Nine in Homestand Finale

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 1, 2022) – TinCaps starting pitcher Robert Gasser matched a career-high with nine strikeouts, but Fort Wayne fell to the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate), 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

The left-hander, who MLB.com ranks as the No. 9 Padres prospect, struck out the first four batters he faced and finished his four-inning outing with no walks.

However, the Dragons (16-5) plated a run in the top of the second inning after there were two outs and no one on base. The visitors added three in the fourth and two more in both the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Meanwhile, the TinCaps (11-10) were held in check by lefty Andrew Abbott, MLB.com’s No. 13 Reds prospect. He tossed six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.

Gasser ranks fourth in the league in strikeouts with 30 so far this season in 19 1/3 innings. Abbott now leads that list with 35 in 21 frames.

Fort Wayne center fielder Robert Hassell III had his remarkable 20-game on-base streak snapped. Nevertheless, Hassell’s .451 on-base percentage is still the highest in the Midwest League. Left fielder Corey Rosier reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Dayton held an 11-2 advantage in the hits column.
