Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Surpasses Crowdfunding Goal, Secures State Match

New Haven, Indiana (April 10, 2026) — Youth in New Haven are one step closer to creating a pocket park after exceeding their crowdfunding goals.

The New Haven Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) launched their fundraising campaign in January, with the hope of securing donations towards the creation of Guardian Park. The group participated in the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program, which matches donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. After 60 days of hard work, they have surpassed that $50,000 goal and successfully raised $75,805. This means that with the match, MYAC members now have more than $125,000 for equipment.

MYAC is a non-political teen leadership organization meant to empower teen leaders in the community, equipping them with valuable life skills. This project exemplifies MYAC’s mission as participants gain experience in fiscal management, philanthropy, project management, public engagement, government relations and more.

“I am absolutely blown away by these kids and all that they’ve achieved,” said New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael. “They are all destined for greatness and Guardian Park is just the beginning.”

While the matching campaign gave MYAC a strong start, members are still fundraising to develop the property, focusing now on surfacing, drainage and more.

For those interested in contributing to this legacy project, contact MYAC Director Deb-Anne Smith at dsmith@newhaven.in.gov or at 260-748-7070.
