On February 26, 2026, at 2345 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a duplex fire in the 2700 block of Sterling Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Time of Alarm: 2346 hours
On Scene: 2352 hours
Under Control: 0044 hours
Multiple FWFD units arrived on the scene and started a quick attack of the fire along with other crews entering the structure from multiple sides trying to locate anyone still inside. Crews were able to locate one person inside the house, but unfortunately, they had already perished. Crews continued searching for other occupants and none were found inside. One other occupant, who self-evacuated, was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. The fire was brought under control in about one hour.
Multiple crews will remain on the scene working hot spots throughout the night.
The fire is under investigation.
